Nghiên cứu khảo sát chiến lược lịch sự trong hành động yêu cầu của sinh viên Mỹ và Việt dưới tác động của biến quyền lực. Dữ liệu gồm 200 phiếu DCT hợp lệ, trong đó có 100 phiếu của sinh viên mang quốc tịch Mỹ tại VinUni và 100 phiếu của sinh viên Việt tại Đại học Quốc gia Hà Nội. Dựa trên khung CCSARP, nghiên cứu phân tích ba bình diện: chiến lược yêu cầu, mức độ trực tiếp/gián tiếp và phương tiện giảm nhẹ nội tại, ngoại tại. Kết quả cho thấy quyền lực ảnh hưởng rõ đến cách hiện thực hóa lời yêu cầu. Khi người nghe có vị thế cao hơn, các phát ngôn thường được làm mềm bằng cấu trúc gián tiếp hoặc phương tiện giảm nhẹ; khi người nói có ưu thế quyền lực, mức độ trực tiếp tăng lên. Nghiên cứu góp phần làm rõ vai trò của quyền lực trong hành động yêu cầu và gợi ý cho giảng dạy giao tiếp học thuật liên văn hóa.
