Abstract

The paper presents a study on the factors that influence the reliability of term 5 writing skills assessment at English Faculty, Hanoi Open University. Based on a theoretical framework about language testing, particularly testing writing skills and reliability in testing, the authors collected and evaluated End-of-term 5 tests on writing skills in three academic years 2018-2019, 2019-2020 2020-2021 and interviewed the teachers involved in the marking of the tests. The study pinpoints some features of the tests and the way of scoring the tests affect the reliability of the assessment of term 5 writing skills.
