MISSION OF DISTANCE STUDY TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT MODEL FROM THE PERSPECTIVES OF DISTANCE LEARNING MODEL OF HANOI OPEN UNIVERSITY

Abstract

Distance education has been valued for its contributions to the scio-economic development of our country in the renovation period in terms of: improving people’s cultural standard; fostering human resources’ training; equality in education. Distance education offers more oppotunities for people to learn for life despite geographical constraints between learners and training institutions. The project “Building a learning society in the period of 2021-2030” of the Ministry of Education and training has clearly stated the task of applying

technology, digital technology and online learning, deploying remote training and digital universities, building a learning society in the digital economy with the goal that: (i) by 2025, 70% of universities would deploy digital universities and digital learning materials; 70%  of learning centers for community would apply information technology in management and operation; (ii) by 2023, the equivalent figures would reach 90%, 80% (according to Decision 2646... Implementation plan for the Project on building a learning society in the period of 2021-2030). It can be seen that distance education is attached to an important mission in developing our national education at present and in the future. This article not only claryfies the definition and current development progress of distance education but also focuses on understanding the importance of DU in the process of promoting a learning society and universalizing universities. Subsequently, the article would introduce a unique development model of DU through a practical perspective of DU applied in Hanoi Open University.
