FEATURES OF SYNTAX VARIATION IN VIETNAMESE IDIOMS AND PROVERBS

Abstract

The article uses qualitative descriptive method in the direction of synchronous research to clarify the syntactic features of variant units in Vietnamese idioms and proverbs. Unlike the group of invariant semantic variants, in the group of mutable semantic variants, the phenomena of variation appear at almost all linguistic levels. Research results show that syntactic variations are formed by two methods: adding words and inverting structures. These structural changes more or less change the expressive nuances of idiomatic and proverbial units. It can lead to their expansion, emphasis or semantic opposite. Studying variations helps to see more clearly the linguistic and cultural values, the diversity of expressions of idioms and proverbs in the life of Vietnamese people.
